Chroma Releases 1000V DC Electronic Loads and Programmable Power for EV and Photovoltaic Testing

With a focus on developing solutions for electric/hybrid vehicle and photovoltaic high voltage testing, Chroma releases its 1000V Electronic Loads and 15kW DC Power Supplies with technologies that enables the user to parallel in master/slave configuration for up to 150kW. These testing instruments are designed specifically for testing solar battery arrays and photovoltaic inverters and electric/hybrid vehicle power electronic devices such as EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) charging stations, car chargers, DC/DC converters and motor drives, etc.

Chroma’s 62000H Programmable DC Power Supplies have many unique advantages for EV testing and solar panel simulation. These advantage include high power density of 15KW in 3U, precision readback of output current and voltage, output trigger signals as well as the ability to create complex DC transients waveforms to test device behavior to spikes, drops, and other voltage deviations. The 62000H Series includes LIST and STEP modes available for automatic programming. The LIST mode has 100 programmable sequences with time range from 5ms to 15000s for setting and voltage/current slew rate control. The STEP mode is able to set start and end voltage with 10ms to 99 hours running time for automatic test. Test applications include DC/DC converter, inverter, voltage loss test, engine start simulation, battery auto charge, loss simulation of battery voltage, electronic products life cycle test and avionics test. In addition, the optional soft panels have ISO16750-2 and GS95024 related automotive power load testing functions built in. The Solar Array Simulation feature provides simulation of the output characteristics of a solar array. This function is useful for MPPT performance evaluation on solar inverter device. Users can easily edit the I-V curve, test and monitor the PV inverter via our softpanel.

Test applications include DC/DC converter, inverter, voltage loss test, engine start simulation, battery auto charge, loss simulation of battery voltage, electronic products life cycle test and avionics test. In addition, the optional soft panels have ISO16750-2 and GS95024 related automotive power load testing functions built in.

Chroma’s 63200 Electronic Loads have 11 different models with power range from 2,600W to 15,600W, current ranges from 50A to 1,000A, and current slew rates up to 41A/μs. In addition, the 63211 model boosts an input voltage of up to 1,000V. Each model is applicable for testing server power, A/D power supplies, power electronic components, EV batteries, car chargers, DC charging stations and other power electronics. Master/slave paralleling allows synchronous load control under static and dynamic loading mode up to 93.6kW. Besides standard operating modes of constant current, constant resistance, constant power and constant voltage, the 63200 loads also have external signal control functions that simulate the real current waveform. The 63200 Series can host instant large power that can be 2.7 times of rated power maximum within 1 ms. This feature is most suitable for testing the unit under test with instant large power such as 3 times of rated current discharge (3C) for battery, overload (300% ~ 1000%) testing for breaker and fuse, and starting current simulation for motor engine and DC motor.
