Chroma and Ming Chi University of Technology Launch Integrated EV Powertrain Testing Platform

01 Oct 2025

The Intelligent Vehicle R&D Center at Ming Chi University of Technology is dedicated to cultivating automotive engineering talent and strengthening technical capabilities. With a long-term focus on innovation in smart electric vehicles (EVs) and powertrain systems, the center has been building out its testing and verification capabilities for EVs, automotive batteries, and intelligent systems. This strengthens its role as a comprehensive technical service platform that accelerates research and drives industry innovation.

To further improve R&D efficiency and product reliability, the center selected Chroma's E-Propulsion Test System to create an integrated environmental simulation and validation setup. The facility is now equipped to support validation needs across the entire product lifecycle, from early development through pre-production.

As smart EV technology continues to evolve, performance and stability requirements for power systems grow increasingly demanding. Unlike fuel vehicles, EVs depend on electric drive systems whose performance is highly susceptible to environmental stresses like high temperatures and humidity. Excess heat may cause motor windings to overheat or degrade. High humidity can affect insulation performance in high-voltage systems.

For these reasons, precise and repeatable environmental simulation has become essential in modern EV development. For the Intelligent Vehicle R&D Center, the ability to perform multi-scenario and multi-condition testing on a single platform is a key tool for accelerating development and improving product quality.

Integrated Powertrain Testing Platform for Multiple Applications

Ming Chi University of Technology partnered with Chroma to establish an integrated powertrain testing platform that combines a high-precision dynamometer with a temperature-and-humidity chamber. This one-stop testing environment supports several key applications:

  • Performance and efficiency verification: Measures torque, output power, and efficiency curves across a range of temperature and humidity conditions to generate reliable performance data.
  • Thermal management verification: Simulates high-load and extreme-temperature conditions to evaluate heat-dissipation performance and cooling strategies, ensuring stable motor output.
  • Durability testing: Recreates harsh combinations of environmental and mechanical load stresses to assess long-term system stability and reduce risks in real-world applications.

In addition to environmental stress testing, the platform is also capable of loading vehicle models (such as those based on Simulink) and precisely simulates various extreme climates. The system can reproduce real-world driving conditions including NEDC, WLTC, rapid acceleration and deceleration, hill-climb conditions, and load fluctuations. By synchronizing multiple parameters like temperature, torque, and rotational speed, the platform enables multi-scenario testing on a single system, delivering highly reliable test data that accelerates development cycles and improves product quality.

Chroma's E-Propulsion test system not only supports hands-on research in extreme environments but also fosters talent development and industry-academia collaboration. With high-precision measurement, high power capability, and versatile environmental simulation, the platform enables performance analysis, thermal management optimization, and reliability verification, enhancing R&D efficiency and reliability.
Looking ahead, Chroma will continue collaborating with academic and industry partners to advance green transportation.
