Server Power Shelf Automated Test System Model 8000

The ORV3 (Open Rack Version 3) Power Shelf delivers up to 33kW of high-density power output in a compact 1OU form factor. Designed specifically for data centers and large-scale server architectures, power shelves centralize power management and distribution by delivering electricity to IT equipment through a common bus bar in an open rack configuration. They support high-efficiency converters (such as 80 PLUS certified units) to minimize energy loss. Power shelves also feature redundant designs, ensuring stable system operation and enhanced reliability even when individual PSU modules fail and are hot-swapped for replacement.

Key Features

Chroma's Server Power Shelf Automated Test System is a customized solution built on the Chroma 8000 ATS platform, specifically designed for automated testing and validation of server power shelves. Paired with Chroma 61800, 63200A, 62000D, 63700 series and other regenerative test equipment, the system enables comprehensive testing of server power shelf input characteristics, output performance, protection features, and PMBUS communication. Unlike traditional automated test software, the software included in this system requires only minimal setup: simply define the test conditions and specifications, and automated testing can begin. Test reports are generated instantly upon completion for maximum efficiency.

Server Power Conversion Device Test Items and Specifications

The diagram below illustrates the power architecture of a data center server system, with Power Supply Units (PSUs) functioning as the system's power core. The ORV3 specification allows for up to six PSUs to be connected in parallel within a single power shelf, primarily used to provide centralized power management and distribution for multiple servers. Its main functions include power supply, redundancy, hot-swapping capability, and power condition monitoring. Under the testing guidelines of OCP ORV3, high reliability and compatibility requirements must be met.

Chroma 8000 Power Shelf ATS

Chroma's server power testing solutions can be programmed with automated test items and procedures according to the specifications of the ORV3 testing guidelines. This enables effective evaluation of the performance and reliability of server power supplies in real-world applications, ensuring they meet high operational standards. The test items cover output performance testing to assess the general performance of the server power supply, input characteristics testing to evaluate the input parameters of the power supply, regulation testing to examine output stability under varying input power and load conditions, timing and transient testing to measure the timing of power-on/off and various events, protection testing to trigger the power supply's protection circuits and functions, and PMBus communication testing of server power status parameters.

For prolonged burn-in testing, the system can be configured with the Chroma 63700 regenerative DC electronic load. This allows the energy output during the test to be fed back to the grid, reducing overall power consumption and aligning with sustainability goals such as carbon neutrality and green manufacturing.
