“Habitat Conservation · Ocean Protection · Landscape Exploration” — Chroma Foundation Environmental Education Series II, Hsinchu

On September 13, the second stop of the 2025 Chroma Environmental Education Series took place in Xinfeng Township, Hsinchu. The event was led by Chroma Foundation Chairman Paul Ying and George Chang, President of Chroma ATE Inc.’s Semiconductor Test Equipment Business Unit. A total of 79 employees and family members from Chroma ATE’s Hsinchu branch, along with group subsidiaries MAS Automation and Innovative Nanotech Inc., joined hands with partner organization Rethink to organize a beach cleanup at Fengkeng Beach. The initiative also mobilized more than 179 local residents, creating strong community engagement. Despite temperatures exceeding 35°C, participants worked together to collect plastic bottles, plastic fragments, buried fishing nets, and discarded pipes along the shoreline. In total, they removed 402 kg of marine waste, including 338 kg of general waste and 64 kg of recyclables, restoring cleanliness and natural beauty to the coastal environment of Fengkeng Beach.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Paul Ying emphasized that Chroma has consistently organized beach cleanup activities in recent years. These initiatives not only engage employees and their families, but also extend environmental education to a broader audience. He noted that small everyday actions—such as bringing reusable cups, utensils, and shopping bags—can collectively contribute to reducing environmental impact and driving meaningful change.

Before the beach cleanup, Rethink conducted an educational session titled “An Essential Lesson on Waste for Island Citizens.” Through interactive discussions and engaging presentations, participants gained deeper insights into recycling and waste reduction. Key learnings included proper recycling practices, such as keeping bottle caps attached to plastic bottles, as well as understanding that certain materials—such as thermal paper receipts and composite materials like phone cases—are not recyclable due to their composition. Notably, many children demonstrated even stronger environmental awareness than adults, showing a clear understanding of resource recycling, reuse, and the importance of waste reduction as the most effective way to protect the environment.

Chroma continues to prioritize sustainability initiatives. In addition to taking concrete action to raise public awareness of marine pollution, the company also aims to use diverse thematic activities to encourage employees, families, and the broader public to develop a stronger connection with and respect for the environment. Through these efforts, Chroma seeks to embed sustainability into both work and daily life, fostering long-term environmental stewardship.
