Chroma Launches Next-Generation Test Solution for Future Gaming Displays

The Covid-19 pandemic has substantially changed our social lives. Forced to stay at home to avoid infection, many people have turned to video games as a means of social interaction, which has boosted the gaming industry. Technical demands are rising in turn, with gamers expecting a silky smooth and crystal clear gaming experience at 4K, 8K, and even higher resolutions. Targeting the newest UHD monitors with high refresh rates, Chroma is launching the A223814 gaming monitor test module with 10K resolution output and HDMI 2.1a Gaming-VRR, QFT, ALLM and other test modes. The module comes with an extensive pre-installed library of HDR10, HLG, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and other test patterns for image quality testing. Customers can combine the module with a color analyzer for a versatile test solution that will significantly improve throughput.

VRR Test

Variable Refresh Rate (VRR, also called Gaming-VRR) technology addresses the needs of constantly fluctuating frame rates due to the real-time graphics processing particular to gaming display. It can instantly adjust the display's refresh rate to match the framerate of the game, thereby reducing lag and screen tearing and making the moving image appear much smoother on the screen.

The Chroma A223814 is equipped with four VRR test modes: Saw, Ramp, Square, and Arbitrary, which allow users to freely adjust the refresh rate between 20Hz ~ 480Hz to simulate the display's fluctuating refresh rates while gaming. In Arbitrary mode, users can adjust the frame rate as required for the test, as well as the set of parameters for the maintenance period.

Dolby Vision Test

With the multiple pre-installed Dolby Vision test patterns, users can easily assess the Dolby Vision function of the device under test. The module also supports 12-bit color depth and Rec.2020 color gamut, and provides color test patterns which mainly target brightness, contrast, color, and sharpness, meeting the the needs of today's colorful image output.

QFT Test

In QFT (Quick Frame Transport) mode, users can adjust the FVA (Fast VActive) ratio between 1 and 16, or use the VRR mode to set up a variety of test combinations. Additionally, the ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) function allows users to keep track of the screen changes that occur during the test by conveniently displaying the ALLM test status on the On Screen Display.

Last but not least, the A223814 comes equipped with FRL (Fixed Rate Link) video transmission mode with a maximum of 48Gbps, FEC (Forward Error Correction), DSC (Display Stream Compression), and a range of wide-gamut color spaces: Adobe RGB / BT.2020-YC / DCI-P3 RGB / BT.2020-RGB.
